weekly scripture reflection
How did skeptical Thomas recognize the risen Christ? By his wounds! God’s triumph over sin and death does not erase history—in Jesus’ case, his brutal torture and execution. Instead, God redeems history. God transformed the cross, a human instrument of violence and death, to serve God’s loving purposes for life and blessing. Jesus’ wounds became a sign of God’s power to overcome evil and death. For us, resurrection hope means God’s embrace of all we are and all our history, so that God may heal and renew us and give us Christ’s abundant life.
Why do you think it was important for the risen Christ to appear with wounded hands and feet?
What wounds do you imagine you will carry into the life to come, that God can heal and transform them?
