weekly scripture reflection

John 3:1-17

Dear Friends,

Jesus describes life with God with two complementary images. First, it’s like beginning an entirely new life. Most people keep a laser focus on their own wants and desires, but one who is alive to God’s presence is moved by love for neighbors. Life with God is so different from the norm, it’s like the result of a new birth. Second, life with God is directed by the Spirit. Like wind, the Spirit of God is powerful, mysterious, and never under our control. One whose heart is open to God may find the Spirit directing them to embody Jesus’ practices of compassion and forgiveness, generosity and humility, even love of enemies.

Which image best helps you picture how life with God changes a person—a new birth or moved by the Spirit?

How is life with God making your life different?
