weekly scripture reflection
Trauma leaves a mark. Thus skeptical Thomas recognized the risen Christ by his wounds. But by God’s grace, those wounds became more than a sign of torture and death. God’s triumph over sin and did not erase history, but instead redeemed history. God transformed the cross, a human instrument of violence and death, to serve God’s loving purposes for life and blessing. Jesus’ wounds became a sign of God’s power to overcome evil and death. For us, resurrection hope means God’s embrace of all we are, including our history, so that God may heal and renew us and give us Christ’s abundant life.
Why do you think it was important for the risen Christ to appear with wounded hands and feet?
What wounds do you carry, and how might God heal and transform them in order to make them a means of blessing?
